Christ the Peacemaker: 1 God, 1 Nation, 12 Tribes

  • Eph 2:11-15
    • When Christ died, did away with animal sacrifice
    • Northern and Southern separation
    • Enmity was the sacrificial law
      • Northern kingdom was told not able to get the kingdom
      • Would have prohibited the Northern Kingdom from salvation
    • Eph 2:14 – The sacrificial wall was the dividing of the nation
      • symbolic of the veil in the tabernacle to divide the holy of holies
      • Exo 36:31-39
      • Lev 16:34
        • Once a year priest go into the holies of holies and sacrifice for Israel
    • Eph 2:14-25
      • When did that wall get broken down – When Christ died and resurrected,
        • Matt 27:50-51
          • The veil rent, symbolic he died for the whole nation of Israel
          • The veil is what seperated us from God
          • Christ is now the door
      • John 10:16 – Always plan to raise up other sheep (scattered, dispersed of Israel)
    • Where did the enmity begin?
      • Why did Judah vex Ephraim/ Ephraim envy Judy?
        • The sacrificial law had to be destroyed to bring Israel back together
        • Gave the southern kingdom the advantage Rom 3
          • Even though Judah had the advantage we were still the same as Ephraim
          • All Fall short
      • Heb 9:1-3 – Different sacrifices based on the day, sin, or wealth
        • Divided the Holy (Ephraim) from the Most Holy (Judah)
      • Heb 9:4-8
        • The Holy spirit signified the way to God was not yet manifest yet, they were rehearsing the righteous acts (Rehearsing a connection with God)
        • Jews thought since they had the blood sacrifice they were holier than southern kingdom
        • Christ died because all have fallen, and by grace all redeemed
      • Heb 9:8-9
        • People were still sacrificing
        • God was giving them (the Jews) a dispensation of time before the tabernacle would be destroyed and no more sacrifices
          • Southern kingdom believed faster
        • Sacrificial law was just rehearsing the righteous acts, and not make perfect
          • Ushering in of Christ and his blood, and doing away of goats
      • Heb 9:10-15
        • Who was under the first testament? All 12 tribes of Israel
        • Whoever was under the first testament, if called would receive the promise
    • Rom 3:1-2
      • Advantage of the Jew – the laws committed unto them
      • Committed = pledge or bind to a certain course or policy (give)
      • Unto Israel was given the laws
      • Judah was the lawgiver
        • Rom 3:23 – All have sinned and come short of the glory of God
          • Christ dying for all those under the old testament
    • Not a mystery that northern kingdom would be saved

        • Now reconciled
      • Col 1:25-26 – For a long time it was hidden that Northern Kingdom would be reconciled
        • Teachers knew but did not connect the dots

      • The lost sheep were the Jews at this time (they were lost)

        • Jews have no dealings with Samaritans
        • Mindset of enmity between northern and southern kingdom, Paul upset that Peter pulled back (What Lord made clean do not call common)
        • Water to never thirst = understanding of the scriptures
    • Acts 10:1-3
      • Blessed is the man that thirsts after righteousness
      • Vision came from God Joel 2:28
      • For God to put spirit on you, you must be thirsting after righteousness
      • Even though Northern Kingdom – Cornelius received this spirit
    • Acts 10:44-45
      • Jews who believed were shocked to see Northern kingdom with the Holy spirit
      • Acts 13:43-46 – After the shock, came jealousy and envy – Jews were the Pharisees
        • Keep the division
    • Eph 2:11-12 – In time past gentiles in the flesh
      • Now part of commonwealth of israel, you better not boast
  • Uncircumsized derogatory
    • Jer 9:25-26
      • They were joined unto dumb idols
      • They were put in the same categories as the heathen
  • 1 Cor 12:2 – Gentiles carried away by dumb idols, Jews no dealing with Northern Kingdom

    • Brought into the fold by the blood of Christ

    • Blessed be God, He punishes and had mercy
      • No one can avoid his hand

        • sNorthern kingdom would be scourged and then brought back in
        • A point not called God’s peope (Gentiles, Heathen)

  • Tob 13:2 – Leadeth down to hell (captivity)
    • Confess him before the gentiles (confess God among the heathen)
    • Tobit in the time of the Assyrians
    • God will have mercy again and gather us from among all nations

      • Began to inflict northern kingdom
      • Because of their pride, they would send their enemies against them
      • Isa 9:2-7
        • Our king comes out of David (Judah)
        • Ephraim heard this and did not like it
      • Northern kingdom did not like this prophecy

    • Northern Kingdom came against southern kingdom
    • They were strong (had 10 tribes)
    • Continued to try and uproot Judah (Isa 7:1-8)
    • They made a league to come against us, and 65 years later, they were not a people
  • 1 Kings 12:1-4
    • Solomon worked Northern Kingdom
      • Would spend six months at a time harvesting wood in another kingdom away from family
    • 1 Kings 12:5-10
      • Rehoboam was a younger man to Jeroboam
        • open disrespect to build animosity
    • 1 Ki 12:11-15
    • 1 Ki 12:16-18
    • 2 chron 30:1,10
      • Hezekiah trying to bring them back together
  • Gen 37:4-11
    • Beginning of the hatred between them

    • Joseph was getting blessed
    • Crown upon his head, the pride of Ephraim
    • Gen 49:8 Joseph forgot
      • All bow down before Judah
      • Sceptre not depart from Judah
      • Unto him shall the gathering of the people be

    • Refused the Tabernacle of Joseph
    • Joseph was trying to push it

      • They were worshipping in the mountains of Ephraim, Samaria, when first came into the land (but was not the place where God chose)

        • When first came into the land, were sacrificing in those mountains, ordaied of God
    • 2 Chron 6:6 – Made it clear, the Lord chose Jerusalem, city of David is where put his name
  • Hos 1:4-9
    • Cause to cease the kingdom of the house of Israel
      • Will it come to an end?
    • Enmity came from Jews still sacrificing and keeping the law and northern kingdom not
  • Rom 11:1-5
    • Northern kingdom thought Jews were cast away because the spirit was on them
    • Rom 11:11-13
      • Provoke to jealousy because now had the Holy Spirit without following the laws since birth
      • Peter’s office was to the circumcision, Paul to uncircumcision (Gentiles), the Jews would have killed Paul because he was once with them
  • Deut 18:18 must understand small things
  • If Christ is holy, the lump is holy
  • Dont boast Rom 11:18
    • What advantage has the Jew (they were keeping the law, but was fallen short against understanding of Christ)
    • Northern kingdom now allowed in, but they were not keeping the law, so they should not boast
